Our EGO Z6 zero turn mower review in one line: the 2026 Z6 is a quiet, gas-free zero-turn for 1 to 3 acres of mostly flat lawn, with a 5-year mower warranty, but its rated acres per charge depend on which battery set comes in the box, and no listing states a slope rating. The lineup has three models: the 42 in lap bar ZT4214L, the 42 in e-STEER ZT4215S with a steering wheel, and the 52 in lap bar ZT5216L.

The ZT5216L is the 52 in step up in EGO's Z6 line. The listing says six included 10.0Ah, 56V batteries deliver the power of a 27 HP gas engine and cut up to 3 acres per charge, with a top speed of 8 mph, ten cutting heights from 1.5 to 4.5 in and a 5-year mower warranty (or 300 hours, whichever comes first). It does not state a slope rating or deck build.

  • 5-year mower warranty (or 300 hours) stated on the listing
  • Triple blade system with 2,500 to 3,600 RPM blade speed
  • Three driving modes and a top speed of 8 mph

Cons

The ZT4214L is a 42 in battery zero-turn. The listing says six included 6.0Ah, 56V batteries deliver the power of a 24 HP gas engine and cut up to 1.5 acres per charge, at up to 8 mph, with ten cutting heights from 1.5 to 4.5 in and a 5-year mower warranty (or 300 hours, whichever comes first). It does not state a slope rating, deck build or transmission type.

Pros

  • Six 6.0Ah batteries included, rated up to 1.5 acres per charge
  • 5-year mower warranty (or 300 hours) stated on the listing
  • Three driving modes and a top speed of 8 mph
  • Adjustable blade speed from 2,300 to 3,200 RPM

Cons

  • Rated for 1.5 acres per charge, so two acres needs a recharge or spare batteries

EGO Power+9.5/10 Acre Score
i
The Acre Score (out of 100, shown as /10) weighs rated performance, build, value, safety listing and warranty. How we score

Battery zero-turn with a steering wheel instead of lap bars, rated up to 2 acres per charge.

Who it's for: owners of 1 to 2 acres with gentle slopes who want a steering wheel and no engine.

Who should skip it: owners of steeper hills, where the manual slope rating should decide.

The ZT4215S replaces lap bars with an e-Steer steering wheel. The listing says its wide frame gives exceptional balance on slopes, but it states no slope rating. Six batteries (two 10.0Ah and four 6.0Ah) are rated up to 2 acres per charge, top speed is 8 mph, the deck is 42 in with ten cutting heights from 1.5 to 4.5 in, and the mower warranty is 5 years or 300 hours.

Pros

  • Steering wheel instead of lap bars, which some owners find easier on slopes
  • Six batteries rated up to 2 acres per charge
  • 5-year mower warranty (or 300 hours) stated on the listing
  • Wide frame that the maker says gives balance on slopes

Cons

  • No slope rating is stated
  • A zero-turn steers with its rear wheels, so traction is the concern on hills
  • A 42 in deck means more passes on bigger lawns
  • Battery warranty needs registration within 90 days

All three share the same frame features on the listings: a wide frame that EGO says gives balance on slopes, deck suspension for a quieter cut, a color digital screen showing speed, driving mode, blade speed and battery status, the EGO Connect app, and three driving modes (Control, Standard and Sport). Batteries are the same 56V ARC Lithium packs that run EGO’s handheld tools, and the mower takes any of them.

Who the EGO Z6 is for

  • Suburban owners with 1 to 2 acres of mostly open, flat to gently rolling lawn who are tired of gas, oil and pull cords.
  • People who already own EGO tools, since the mower’s batteries swap into the blower and trimmer and the reverse.
  • Owners with noise limits, such as early weekend mowing near neighbors, where a battery mower’s quiet cut matters.
  • The 52 in model fits owners with 2 to 3 open acres who want one charge to finish the job.

The picks in the lineup

Below are our cards for all three 2026 Z6 models, with the Acre Score each earned in our roundups. The 52 in scores highest on its larger deck and battery set; the e-STEER scores lowest on value because it costs more for the same deck.

What the Z6 does well

Warranty

Every 2026 Z6 listing states a 5-year mower warranty (or 300 hours, whichever comes first), up to a 5-year battery warranty with registration within 90 days, and a 5-year charger warranty. Because the terms are stated, the Z6 earns warranty points in our Acre Score.

Mowing time

Using the calculator’s residential zero-turn working speed of 6 mph (not the 8 mph top speed), a 42 in deck covers about 1.8 acres an hour, roughly 33 minutes per open acre. The 52 in covers about 2.3 acres an hour, roughly 26 minutes per acre. So the 42 in lap bar model’s rated 1.5 acres takes about 50 minutes of cutting, and the 52 in model’s rated 3 acres about 80 minutes. Trees and beds add 20 to 45 percent.

Adjustable blade speed

You can set blade speed from 2,300 to 3,200 RPM on the 42 in models and 2,500 to 3,600 RPM on the 52 in. Lower speeds stretch the charge on easy grass; higher speeds help in thick spring growth.

One battery system for the whole yard

The included packs run all EGO 56V tools, and the mower runs on any EGO 56V ARC Lithium battery. If you already own a few, they add runtime without buying a mower-specific pack.

Limitations to know before you buy

No published slope rating

EGO’s listings say the wide frame gives balance on slopes but do not give a maximum slope in degrees or percent. A zero-turn steers and brakes through its rear wheels, so traction, not engine power, is the risk on hills. Read the operator’s manual for the slope limit before you buy if you have banks or ditches, and measure your steepest grade with our Slope Calculator. Our riding mowers for hills guide covers this in detail.

Smaller included batteries than the first Z6

The 2026 models are stronger on paper but ship with smaller packs, so rated acres per charge went down. Plan on spare batteries or a recharge if your lawn is larger than the rated figure.

Deck build and transmission not stated

The 2026 listings do not say whether the deck is stamped or fabricated, and give no drive or transmission details. The first-generation 42 in listing named a stamped steel deck.

Weight

At 610 to 685 lb, the Z6 is heavy for a residential mower. On soft or wet ground it can rut turf, and it needs a sturdy trailer and ramp if you haul it.

No towing rating

None of the listings gives a tow capacity, and zero-turns in general are not built to pull carts or aerators like a lawn tractor. If you need to tow, look at a tractor instead.

What changed from the first Z6

We compared the 2026 listings with EGO’s earlier Z6 listings, the 42 in ZT4204L and the 52 in ZT5207L. Only differences both listings state are included.

Spec Earlier 42 in (ZT4204L) 2026 42 in (ZT4214L) Earlier 52 in (ZT5207L) 2026 52 in (ZT5216L)

Weight 620 lb 610 lb 527.4 lb 685 lb

The new listings also add deck suspension, adjustable blade speed and the wide frame, none of which the earlier listings mention.

Who should skip the EGO Z6

  • Owners with steep slopes, banks or pond edges, until they have read the manual’s slope limit.
  • Owners of more than 3 acres who do not want to swap or charge batteries mid-mow; a gas zero-turn from our commercial zero-turn picks runs all day on a tank.
  • Anyone who needs to tow attachments.
  • Owners who want to leave the mower and batteries in an unheated shed all winter without reading EGO’s battery storage instructions first.

Lap bar or e-STEER?

The e-STEER drives like a car, which suits people who have never run lap bars or who share the mower. Lap bars are the standard zero-turn control, and the lap bar 42 in model carries a smaller battery set and costs less. Both have the same 42 in deck, blade speeds and cutting heights. The e-STEER’s mixed battery set is rated for 2 acres against 1.5 for the lap bar model.

Zero-turn safety

Zero-turns steer and brake through the rear wheels, so they can lose traction on slopes, wet grass and near ponds, ditches and drop-offs. Stay within the slope rating in your manual, keep well back from water and edges, use the ROPS and seat belt, never carry passengers, keep children and pets out of the yard, and disengage the blades before reversing. Refuel only with the engine off and cool. See CPSC riding lawnmower safety. Read our Safety Disclaimer.

FAQ: mowing large lots

How many acres can the EGO Z6 mow on one charge?

EGO rates the 2026 42 in lap bar model for up to 1.5 acres, the 42 in e-STEER for up to 2 acres and the 52 in for up to 3 acres with the included batteries. Thick grass, high blade speed and hills will lower that.

Can the EGO Z6 mow hills?

The listings say the wide frame gives balance on slopes but state no maximum slope. Check the operator’s manual for the limit and stay under it; zero-turns lose traction on slopes before they lose power.

What is the warranty on the EGO Z6?

The listings state 5 years or 300 hours on the mower, up to 5 years on the batteries with registration within 90 days, and 5 years on the charger.

Do EGO tool batteries work in the Z6?

Yes. EGO says the Z6 runs on any EGO 56V ARC Lithium battery, and the batteries that come with the mower work in EGO’s other tools.

Is the 2026 Z6 better than the first Z6?

It claims more power and adds deck suspension, adjustable blade speed and a color screen, but the included batteries are smaller, so rated acres per charge are lower. If you already own spare EGO batteries, the new model gains more.
