Every fact on this page comes from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recall notice, recall number 26-103, published November 20, 2025, and from Spartan Mowers’ own recall page, both checked on October 7, 2026. If either changes, the official notice wins over anything written here.

Which Spartan models are affected

Spartan’s recall page lists six model numbers, each with a short description of the mower, deck and engine. The table repeats them as Spartan wrote them.

Model number Mower Deck Engine (as Spartan lists it)
RSSXD161999KE SRT-XD 61 in Kawasaki FX1000E, 38.5 hp
RSSXD172999KE SRT-XD 72 in Kawasaki FX1000E, 38.5 hp
RSSXD161994VO SRT-XD 61 in Vanguard Big Block 40 EFI
RSSXD172994VO SRT-XD 72 in Vanguard Big Block 40 EFI
RSKXD161994VO KGZ-XD 61 in Vanguard 40 EFI
RSKXD172994VO KGZ-XD 72 in Vanguard 40 EFI

All six use the same serial range, 417930476 to 420130746. A 2025 SRT-XD or KGZ-XD outside that range is not in this recall, and neither are other Spartan lines such as the SRT-XDe, RT-HD or RZ series.

Step 1: find the serial plate

Spartan puts the model and serial numbers on a metal plate fixed to the frame, right in front of the seat at the operator’s feet. Clean off grass and dust so every digit is readable, and take a photo of it.

Step 2: check the model number

Compare the model number on the plate with the six in the table, character by character. They differ only in a few letters and digits, so a quick glance is not enough.

Step 3: check the serial

If the model matches, see whether the serial number falls between 417930476 and 420130746. Inside that range means your mower is part of the recall. Spartan’s recall information page, linked from the bottom of joinspartannation.com, also lets you confirm.

What to do if your mower is recalled

Stop using it

Both CPSC and Spartan say to stop using the recalled mower immediately. A bouncing machine on a 61 or 72 inch deck is hard to control, and a crash on a zero-turn is the kind of accident you do not get a second try at. Do not adjust or replace the dampers yourself; the fix is a dealer inspection and repair.

Contact a Spartan dealer

Call an authorized Spartan dealer to schedule the free inspection and repair at their location. Use the dealer locator on joinspartannation.com, or call Spartan toll-free at 855-307-0933, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday. Have the model and serial ready.

Email contact

The two notices list different email addresses: CPSC gives [email protected] and Spartan’s own page gives [email protected]. Phone is the surest route; if you email, the address on Spartan’s current page is the one the company maintains.

What this means if you mow for a living

These are commercial-class machines, so many affected owners run them for a business. Plan for the mower being out of service until the dealer finishes the repair. Ask the dealer for a time estimate when you book, and line up a backup machine for your route if you have one. Spartan’s notice does not mention loaner units, so ask rather than assume.

If you are shopping for a replacement or a second machine, our best commercial zero-turn mowers compares 54 to 61 inch gas models, and the best zero-turn mowers for 2 acres covers smaller residential machines. Browse more in our zero-turn mower reviews.

Zero-turn safety reminders

Even after the repair, a zero-turn steers and brakes through its rear wheels, so it can lose traction on slopes, wet grass and near ponds and ditches. Stay within the maker’s maximum slope rating, wear the seat belt when the ROPS bar is up, carry no passengers, disengage the blades before reversing, and keep children and pets away while you mow. Register every new mower with its maker so recall notices reach you.
